RegiMEN Showcase: Joe and Patrick
by Kate Lee
After asking a handful of guys about their skincare routines, the average response seemed to be somewhere between a bar of soap and a mastery of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. In an effort to introduce simple, effective skincare products that are easily adapted, we are featuring a regular collection of various men's routines. These routines will showcase everything from a beginner to an avid skincare enthusiast. We call it RegiMEN Showcase.

As a younger guy, I never took the time to take care of my skin. I never thought about it. I started to think about it more as I got older. One of my biggest problems is the appearance of ingrown hairs and breakouts when I don't shave. My main goal is to stop that from happening. Fortunately, my shaving cream, Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel, helps reduce razor burn and ingrown hairs.
I have naturally reddish skin that's easily irritated and relatively quick to burn (with a great tan afterwards). Seeing blackheads and pimples has motivated me to take better care of my skin. Beyond that, I’ve looked to make better decisions about my health and wellness: exercising, cutting back on drinking, getting more sleep. Doing the bare minimum doesn’t cut it, especially with turning 30 next month. Right now, I'm starting slow with skincare. Now, I’m more conscientious about using sunscreen. I use Cetaphil to wash my face and Neutrogena Men Triple Protect Face Lotion, which also has SPF protection. I need to do better about using it every day.

I'm really interested in the science behind a lot of the products I use and try to read up on the research on the active ingredients. When it comes to taking care of my skin, I have a few favorite products:
- Hada Labo Hydrating a Facial Cleanser: This cleanser is great because I have dry skin and lather isn't too harsh which I've found after using a lot of other cleansers.
- CosRx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid & CosRx AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid: I discovered BHA after doing research into oil-based cleansing. I started using Paula's Choice first which worked great but was too strong for my skin. CosRx's BHA doesn't cause as much peeling, so I can use it on an almost daily basis.
- No.7 Beautiful Skin Balancing Toner & CosRx BHA Skin Returning A-Sol: I just started using the CosRx toner because of the propolis in it (it's derived from bee wax) which has shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects. I used No.7 on a daily basis and the CosRx toner ever other day.
