Scripts and SPF

Danielle is a touring production coordinator that currently works in country music. She has been touring for 5 years and has worked in the music industry for 7.  When she’s not on the road, she spends most of her days with Detective Olivia Benson and her roommate’s dog, Annabelle.

I was never drawn to dairy growing up. Creamy textures did not jive with me, but two years ago I started incorporating whey protein, cottage cheese, and milk into my diet when trying to amp up my workout regimen. Unfortunately, it caused a yeast infection and a rash on my face – sexy, I know!

After months of using products that did not work and wanting to cry every time I looked in a mirror, I finally went to a dermatologist who diagnosed the infection and a dairy allergy as the cause. I now only use prescription products recommended by her. Shout out to Missy Howd at Retief Skin Center in Nashville! She prescribed a Sodium Sulfacetamide 10% & Sulfur 5% cleanser morning and night. I alternate a Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Solution and BuffRX Calming Serum after cleansing every other day. At night, I put on Savannah Bee Royal Jelly Night Time Rejuvenation Treatment a couple times a week. Night creams are generally too much for my oily skin to handle, so I only use deep hydration creams every few days or before a long flight.

I use Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer with SPF 30 as my every day moisturizer. Since we are coming into amphitheater and festival season, a good sunscreen is a major part of my routine. I spend most of my show days outside, so I make sure to set timers on my phone to remind me to reapply every few hours. I use Neutrogena Age Shield Face Oil-Free Lotion Sunscreen SPF 110 on show days as it’s very smooth to apply. I also use Elta MD UV Physical Broad Spectrum SPF 41 Lightly Tinted, but I find the tinted version too chalky to reapply multiple times throughout the day. It is better for a brunch day on the patio with my girlfriends.

Since I work in country music, we do the “weekend warrior” lifestyle. This means I usually am gone Wednesdays through Sundays, but am home a few days a week. This means we have three or four shows in a row, which translates into getting around 4 hours of sleep on a good night. Slapping Honest Beauty “The Depuffed Eye” Eye Gel right after my alarm goes off and before I roll out of my bunk has become a necessity. I rotate using the company’s “The Younger Eye” Deep Hydration Eye Cream and It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream on my eyes at night. The Confidence in a Cream is too heavy to use on my oily face, but I adore the creamy texture, so I’ve been utilizing it around my eyes.

I make sure to pamper myself on my days off at home. This includes a Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt bath and a Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask once a week, with a prescription Retin-A application immediately after. I’m obsessed with charcoal! I also use their Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Wipes on the road to wipe the sweat, sunscreen, and rock ‘n’ roll off my face before I get my glorified end of night shower.

Nutrition is just as important as my skincare routine. Sadly, now that my skin is clear, it becomes very apparent when I consume something that I shouldn’t and my skin fires back. This includes things like dairy (sometimes post-show pizza is just too hard to resist!) or too many glasses of wine.

I supplement my nutrition with Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. I pour a scoop into my hot coffee or tea. For the last couple of years I have been in the midst of growing out my hair after ten years of variations of a mohawk. To help with this I have been taking Life-flo Silica Drops. My hair has been growing like crazy and I also notice brightness to my skin since using. I also highly recommend drinking a gallon of water a day!
